Planning a media wall with a fireplace requires more thought than a standard TV wall. You’re balancing viewing comfort, heat, storage and layout — all within one focal feature. This guide walks through how to plan it properly, step by step. For a complete overview of media walls, see our media wall guide.

Step 1: Choose the right overall layout

Start with the wall, not the fireplace. Measure the full width and height and decide whether the media wall will be:

  • A centred feature
  • A wider, fitted wall
  • Floor-to-ceiling or base-unit led

Step 2: Set the TV height first

TV height should always be based on seated eye level. This is especially important when a fireplace is involved, as it’s easy to push the screen too high.

Planning tip

Mark the TV position on the wall before deciding where the fireplace will sit. This avoids uncomfortable viewing angles later.

Step 3: Position the fireplace for balance

Most electric fireplaces work best below the TV, creating a vertical focal point. The goal is visual balance — not squeezing everything together.

Step 4: Allow ventilation and clearances

Both electronics and fireplaces need airflow. Always follow manufacturer guidance and allow space so heat doesn’t build up inside cabinetry.

Step 5: Plan storage and cables early

  • Decide where devices will live
  • Ensure access to sockets
  • Hide cables without restricting airflow
